Realignment of a Liberty Mutual insurance operation in New Castle could affect up to 30 employees, a company spokesman said.
Glenn Greenberg, said from the firm’s Boston headquarters, that 25 to 30 employees at the New Castle offices were notified in March that operations for two no-fault insurance brands are being consolidated into one in the state of Washington.
The change will take place in June, he said.
That time frame gives the company more than a year to work with as many of those impacted full-time employees as possible to secure other Liberty Mutual positions for them, Greenberg said Wednesday.
“We have a large call center operation and another bill review unit there that is growing that may be able to accommodate some of them.”
The New Castle offices of Liberty Mutual have about 600 employees.
“We hope to minimize the impacted number as much as possible as positions in other areas in New Castle become possible,” Greenberg said, stressing, “This isn’t an effort to reduce workforce.”
”There are many ways we can accommodate affected employees,” he continued, adding they could be offered positions in New Castle or other locations.
The company has 500 jobs open countrywide in its claims organization, he said.
Liberty Mutual is looking at aligning the best practices of its two no-fault insurance brands — Liberty Mutual and Safeco. The company is doing it by taking the two claims organizations and making them one to serve the two brands for more efficient claims processing for its customers.
Greenberg explained the firm is undergoing a countrywide realignment of its 8,000-employee claims organizations to align the best claims practices of Liberty Mutual and Safeco. Of those, he said, about 430 employees will be potentially impacted by some of the changes, which largely are relocations or consolidations of some operations into some centralized operations.
