One killed, two injured in accident

NEW CASTLE — One man was killed and two others were injured following a one-car crash last night in North Beaver Township.

Darrell Cockfield, 51, of Beaver Falls was pronounced dead about 7:30 p.m. at Jameson Hospital by Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Richard M. Johnson.

According to the Lawrence County 911 Center, Cockfield lost control on Route 551, Mount Jackson Road, near Columbiana Road at 6:10 p.m.

Cockfield struck a utility pole on the driver’s side of the vehicle, the center reported.

A female passenger was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Johnson said. Her name and condition were not available.

Johnson added that a 14-year-old passenger, whose identity also was not available, was transported by ambulance to Jameson Hospital, then transferred to St. Elizabeth.

Both passengers also were  from Beaver Falls, he explained.

North Beaver police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Johnson said he will rule Cockfield’s death accidental.
