NEW CASTLE —
New Castle became home to Pennsylvania’s 48th MedExpress Urgent Care facility Wednesday morning when doors opened at 2411 Wilmington Road.
The center is the 90th such facility in the nation with more than half located in the Keystone State.
MedExpress is a full-service, walk-in urgent care center, treating patients of all ages for injury and illness, including the flu, asthma attacks, broken bones, cuts requiring stitches and more.
MedExpress also offers a variety of medical and preventative care services, such as digital X-rays, EKGs, physicals, flu shots, IVs and lab work.
There is always a physician on site, supported by a full medical team.
Josh Caplan, marketing supervisor for MedExpress, was among those greeting visitors during Tuesday’s open house.
He said making people from Lawrence County aware and comfortable with the new center in Neshannock Township was the primary reason for the preview. There were tours, gifts and food for those who went to check out the facility.
There are 12 patient and treatment rooms inside the 2,500-square-foot facility.
“We hope to get patients in and out without a long wait,” said Caplan, who noted the facility would be staffed by at least one physician and one nurse from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Caplan said MedExpress also offers a corporate care program that includes physicals and drug testing.
Caplan said Dr. Sheila M. Burick of New Castle is one of the physicians who is part of the MedExpress team.
“We are not a primary care facility, but if you need to come in for treatment, we will transfer your records to your primary care physician,” Burick said.
Prior to Wednesday, the nearest MedExpress facility was in Hermitage. Caplan said MedExpress plans to open more facilities in Pennsylvania.

Council approves bond issue refinancing

Police arrest four in Union Township drug raid
Four people were arrested and drugs and a gun were confiscated Wednesday when police raided a house in Union Township. Union Township police, with the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and New Castle police special response team and narcotics unit, served a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. just before 6:30 a.m.
