NEW CASTLE —
Two bystanders were hit by stray bullets in a shooting last night at Crestview Gardens.
New Castle police, who were called around 5:15 p.m., discovered the two victims already had been taken by private vehicles to Jameson Hospital, which was put on lockdown.
According to Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa, a vehicle carrying two people pulled into the complex and at least one got out and opened fire on a group of young males.
He said none of the members in the group was hurt, but stray bullets hit two other people. A 14-year-old boy was struck in the foot and another male, 25, was hit in the leg, Lamancusa said. He added the boy was admitted to the hospital last night.
New Castle police cordoned off the area and checked for shell casings and other evidence. A persistent rain fell as officers put down numbered cards where casings had been found along Pin Oak Drive.
Lamancusa said at least seven shots had been fired and the shooters are unknown.
In addition to the city police and the district attorney, the New Castle Fire Department responded. The Shenango and Neshannock police departments were contacted for assistance.
Scanner reports indicated a mother of one of the shooting victims required medical attention at the scene of the shooting.
