Nineteen former Penn State football players from Lawrence County will be honored Thursday at the New Englander.
Tom Bradley, defensive coordinator of the Nittany Lions, will be guest speaker for the event. A pre-dinner tailgate will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.
Tickets are $40 and are available at Augustine’s Pizza, Bucky’s Barbershop, The Crane Room, Hudson Lunch and The Apple Castle. The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday.
No tickets will be sold at the door. Additional information can be obtained by calling (724) 654-7818.
The event is being held by the Lawrence County Penn State Alumni Association. Proceeds will benefit the association’s freshman scholarship fund.
Thirteen of the honorees have indicated they plan to attend. They are Bruce Clark, Dave Alexander, Kenn Andrews, Todd Atkins, Jeff Behm, Amen Hassen, Greg S. Jones, Mark Latsko, Mike Latsko, Dick McClure, Nick Marmo, Willard “Bull” Smith and John A. Wojtowicz.
Following are biographical sketches of the former players to be honored:
DAVE ALEXANDER
Alexander is a 1957 graduate of New Castle High School. He lettered twice at Penn State and graduated in 1961 with a degree in business administration.
He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland and later spent 35 years in textiles with Cannon Mills/Fieldcrest-Carina/Pillowtex Corp.
Alexander and his wife, Nancy, have three children.
KENN ANDREWS
A 1969 graduate of Mohawk Area High School, Andrews played running back for Penn State from 1969 through 1972.
After Penn State, Andrews worked for U.S. Cement, A1 Products, McCrackin Ford and the U.S. Postal Service. He currently lives in Glenshaw and has three children.
