Gary Church: My life? Vanilla? I’m cool as ice, ice, baby!

NEW CASTLE — Sometimes my life is so exciting, I can hardly stand it.

At the ripe old age of 68, I still am discovering new adventures to explore.

I have been going to Edward’s restaurant since way back when it was Mike Isabella's.

Because I have never acquired a taste for liquor, never once in all those years have I sat at the bar.

As I was eating dinner there last week with my family, I noticed Bob McCartt come in and sit at the bar.

Bob may enjoy a beverage or two once in a while.

Because I needed to chat with him, I went over to the bar, pulled up a stool, and sat next to him.

Isn't that exciting?!

My first time sitting at a bar.

It sort of lost its gusto when the lady behind the bar asked me if I wanted something to drink.

I said, "No."

You can't do everything all at once. My heart can only take so much excitement.

Maybe sometime down the road, I'll order a Coke, if I ever sit at the bar again.

The other big event was, I had a Nina's Italian Ice at Cascade Park.

Right now you're probably thinking, this guy really knows how to live.

My wife asked me what flavor I wanted, and I said "Cherry."

As a kid, I always ordered cherry ice balls off Tom the ice ball man.

Since I have never had Italian Ice, I pictured it as a regular ice ball in a red and green cup, with maybe the Italian flag sticking up in the middle.

It wasn't like that at all.

If you have never had one, they scoop it out of a container, like you would ice cream.

It's flavored, soft ice that you eat with a spoon.

I rather enjoyed it.

No one told me you could get different flavors in a dish.

Next time I'm getting the cotton candy flavor on the top, and the banana on the bottom.

Yes, it's great living life in the fast lane.

Who knows what I may try next?

Maybe a small piece of pepperoni is on the horizon.

Nah, that probably isn't going to happen.

Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended five games for sucker punching Pittsburgh’s Travis Snider during a bench clearing brawl on Sunday. You OK with that suspension?

Yes. Seems fair.
No. Baseball NEVER gets it right in these situations. Should have been at least 20 games for his sucker punch into a pile of players.
Not sure, but I’d love to see baseball be like hockey and allow two guys to fight for a while before breaking it up. Let’s see how tough Maldonado is then.
