NEW CASTLE —
I can't help but notice that I am the eldest of The News bloggers.
They keep you informed about all their exciting activities, while I like to keep you up-to-date on getting old.
I was just going through some old photos, and discovered a school picture of my second-grade class.
It astonished me that I could name everyone in the photo.
Otherwise, the “remembering names” part of my brain has left the building.
When I'm talking to my wife about someone I just saw, I usually call them by the first name that comes to my mind.
This upsets my wife, because she has no idea who I'm talking about.
It's not uncommon for me to come home and say, "I just saw Lester Fillburn at the gas station."
Her next statement is usually, "Give me the right name."
After going through a list of names like Bob Fillburn, Roy Filburn, and Roy Acuff, I come up with the right name of Bruce Waldman.
It's too bad you can't meet everyone you will ever know in the second grade. That way you should have no trouble remembering their names in the future.
Just leaving the house tests my memory skills.
Keys, wallet, hanky, restaurant coupons, police scanner, camera, and cell phone are all part of my departing entourage.
Sometimes I may forget something important, like my wife.
I’m a little concerned. Not many from my family live to the age of 90 or more.
When I get to that age, and you see me walking around without any pants, just give me a gentle reminder that I may have forgotten to put something on.
And don't hold it against me if I answer you and say, "Thank you Mr. Acuff."
