Gary Church: There’s no sweet talk when it comes to sugar bowl saga

NEW CASTLE — I noticed the other day that the sugar bowl needed a little cleansing.

Although I volunteered to do it, my wife said she would take care of the problem.

She doesn't like me doing anything in the kitchen.

The next morning when the sugar bowl reappeared on the table, something didn't look right.

After close investigation, it was apparent she didn't let the bowl dry before adding the new sugar.

Yuk!

This bothered me so much, I couldn't wait until the sugar bowl was empty again so I could personally wash it.

To do it correctly, I was going to wipe it completely dry with paper towels.

I was quite dismayed when I noticed that there were no paper towels on the roller. This happens a lot in our household.

What annoyed me more was, there was no back-up plan, unless I used my shirt to dry the bowl.

I've always hated change.

In the good old days, Mom kept a dish towel under the sink to dry dishes with.

I haven't seen a dish towel in our home for years.

I don't know if they even still make the things.

You never heard Mom say, "I'm out of dish towels."

You bought a half a dozen, and you had them for the rest of your life.

If one wore out, it became a dust rag.

With paper towels, you have to be constantly buying them.

If you are old and senile, like my wife, you forget to get them half of the time.

I'm going to start a campaign to start using dish towels again, instead of the paper ones.

While I'm at it, maybe I could get Feen a Mint gum and Carter's Little Liver Pills back on the shelves.

That ought to get America running again, in more ways than one.
