NEW CASTLE —
One thing the majority of us cannot afford is designer clothing — at least not on a regular basis.
I drool over magazine pages, admiring the quality of the designer goods, knowing that they won't be enjoying the warmth of my closet any time soon. The fairly recent trend of designer collaborations between higher names and "inexpensive" lines have brought these goods to the mass market and allowed the rest of us the chance to get a taste of the luxury.
Though not produced in the designers’ typical quality, these items still lend us the chance of fantasy.
Target has always been one of the most successful retail stores to take on this challenge. They introduced designers such as Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, and Missoni. However, the last two collaborations — between 24 designers with collections in Neiman Marcus and Prabal Gurung — have not sold quite as well as these collaborations once did.
This begs the question: Are designer collaborations a thing of the past? Do consumers not want this little piece of the fantasy? Or are they simply not offering customers pieces that they want?
To the right, you can see some items from the recent Target-Prabal Gurug launch. The bold colors and mirror print designs are very on trend for spring and the price tags were still within Target prices. I picked up one dress from the line (though the color and style is a bit out of my comfort zone) and I am excited to give it a shot this spring.
Each time one of these collaborations is announced, consumers are known to stand in line waiting for the stores to open just like "Black Friday." I have personally never jumped into one of these lines, preferring to search online if any of the items piques my interest (such as my recent dress purchase).
For the most part, I've let the collaborations go untouched. H&M is another retailer who does an outstanding job with designer collaborations but I am even less inclined to buy from these limited edition lines — mainly because the prices are still too high.
So, how many of you really enjoy these collaborations? Do you stand in line waiting for the launches? Or do you not even notice when a new collaboration is announced?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Looking for stylish way to pack your possessions? It’s in the bag
One of the most personal things a woman buys is a handbag. It holds all of her prized possessions. So when shopping for a new bag, there are a lot of things to consider. Size, color, quality, fabric and length of use. Is she looking for something to use year round, or something that can be changed each season?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Want to add some zing for spring? Go ‘bloom’ yourself!
It's spring, it's spring! It finally feels like spring! Maybe I shouldn't say that too loudly, I don't want to scare it off. Anyway, one of the best parts of spring is seeing all of the pretty flowers popping up around the area.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Don’t write off printed pants
One of the top trends for spring is the printed pant. In any print, in any color, this trend is definitely one that will make you stand out from the crowd. Floral patterns are the most common, but a strong graphic print in any pattern feels right on trend and fresh.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: I’ve learned what to wear from ‘What Not to Wear’
Contrary to popular belief, you CAN actually learn things from watching TV. “What Not to Wear” has been one of my favorite shows for years and Stacy and Clinton have taught me a lot. Now that the show is ending, I'm wondering who exactly I'll learn from next.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Overalls are coming back — are you all in?
There's a trend that seems to be making the rounds that completely surprises me. In fact, I haven't thought about it since the 1980s — or maybe the early 90s. Overalls seem to be back — so far quietly, but I'm interested to see if the trend gains momentum.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: I’ve got a new job and that means new clothes — yay!
On Monday I started a new job with a local company after almost two years of searching. This was cause for celebration for many reasons:

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Believe it or not, spring is here — so dress for it
It is slowly, slowly starting to warm up around here. But with the spring comes cool mornings and evenings and warm afternoons in-between. When I asked recently what people around me were having a hard time with, the answer was repeated over and over — how are we supposed to dress for these days?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: So, what’s in your bag?
One of the great things about being a woman is that you get to carry around bags filled with all of your favorite things to have whenever you may need them. One of the not-so-great things about being a woman is carrying around a bag filled with all of your favorite things — it gets heavy!
