It's creeping closer and closer to spring — even if it doesn't quite feel like it with this cold Pennsylvania weather.
I've been looking forward to spring since the beginning of winter. And I've been looking at the spring 2013 trends — and I can’t wait to put these trends into motion.
Looking through the runway trends, it's easy to see what will be in stores, but maybe not as easy to see how to make these trends work in real life. In next week's post, I'll show you how you can actually wear these looks. But first, let's talk about what the top trends will be.
If you look to the right, you can see examples of each of the following trends.
•Black and white — This is a classic trend that seems to always linger. For spring, this trend is being used in bold patterns and graphics. Think of new ways to mix up these colors to feel fresh and new.
•Sheer — Though this trend may not be one that you can wear to the office, it is a great way to change up your date night look. Taking it to the extremes of the runway probably won't be appropriate for most of us, but wearing hints of sheer is a great way to be fashion forward.
•Pattern and texture mixing — A trend that has stayed around for awhile, pattern mixing is being taken to new levels for spring. If you aren't comfortable mixing your patterns, try mixing textures. A (faux) leather mixed with suede can be just as interesting as mixing stripes and florals.
This trend is all about taking fashion risks.
•Ruffles — Typically reserved for the younger girls, ruffles have come back for spring in a sophisticated and grown-up way. A ruffled neckline or dress hem can look incredibly stylish. Just take care not to overdo it — you don't want to look like you are trying to reclaim your kindergarten days.
•Power suit — As more and more women are taking over lead roles at companies, the power suit has become a staple. For spring, exaggerated shoulders and striking textures are great ways to change up the typical black suit. It allows women to still project power while remaining very current.
•Far East origami — This trend is all about bright colors, interesting cuts, and ease. Kimonos transformed into dresses, jackets with complex detail, and silky fabrics make this trend one that really stands out.

One of the top trends for spring is the printed pant. In any print, in any color, this trend is definitely one that will make you stand out from the crowd. Floral patterns are the most common, but a strong graphic print in any pattern feels right on trend and fresh.
