NEW CASTLE —
OK, the calendar might not say that yet and maybe Mother Nature doesn't agree, but as soon as regular season football hits, it is fall to me. And with the changing of the leaves comes my favorite time of year.
The chill in the air, the return of my favorite television shows, weekends full of grilling and football, and most important (to this blog anyway) FALL FASHION. I love layering and tend to layer even in 100-degree weather, even if it's just a simple tank top under another top.
But, there is something about snuggling up in an oversized sweater while sitting outside with a good book and apple cider (or pumpkin spice latte, if that's your thing) that makes me feel like life is magical.
One of the staple returns of fall are boots. Boots of all sizes, shapes and colors make their way to store shelves and beg us to add them to our wardrobes (or am I the only one who insists that shoes talk to them?). To the right, I've grabbed a few popular options for boots this fall and put together some outfits around them in case you're not sure just HOW to wear them.
For the classic bootie, try it with simple skinny jeans, a comfy sweatshirt and colorful scarf. This look is perfect when you're out running errands or meeting girlfriends for lunch. The over-the-knee boot can be tricky to pull off because it can go from chic to "Pretty Woman" very quickly. You do not want to wear these boots with a mini skirt or anything overly tight.
To look chic, try it with leather pants, a simple blouse, and simple accessories. For a trendy pair of booties (or any kind of shoe, really), I like to let the shoe be the star of the outfit. This oxblood-studded pair of booties looks perfect with a simple black dress and complimentary accessories.
The cut-out boot is similar to the classic in this case so I like the idea of allowing it to dress up a casual look. Boyfriend jeans (my go-to jean style), a comfortable tee and a chic olive green cape look even more put together when paired with these shoes.
The everyday boot may vary for everyone, but a simple knee-high leather boot with a stacked heel is a great option. These shoes pair well with everything — a flouncy dress, a skinny jean, an oversized sweater and leggings, etc.
I like it paired here with coated skinny jeans and a cozy wrap sweater. The boots take this look up a notch. The riding boot happens to be my favorite style. I love a great brown or cognac pair, and the fact that they're flat means they're ultra-comfortable.
My favorite way to wear them is just as pictured, with a pair of leggings and a T-shirt dress topped off with a great leather jacket (no, the browns in the boots and jackets do not need to match and yes, brown boots look great when paired with black leggings). I'd also like to take a minute to remind you as we come into the season, LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. Please make sure your "parts" are covered.
The futuristic bootie might not be your style but if you're willing to give it a shot, keep the rest of the outfit simple but trendy to compliment the shoes. Simple black skinnies paired with a white crop top looks VERY on trend.
Finally, motorcycle booties are fun because you can pair them with masculine pieces to feed off of the masculine vibe of the shoe, or pair them with something more feminine (as I've done) to give yourself a great contrasting look. A pretty maroon skirt and cable-knit sweater are great with these tough studded boots.
Now that you've seen some great style of boots, will you be buying any this season? Which are your favorite?
