NEW CASTLE —
Fall is in the air. Football is back (finally!), leaves are starting to fall, and magazines have come out with their huge September issues.
Through all the trends, I want to talk to you about one staple that I think is an essential part of any closet — black denim, specifically black skinny jeans. I have one pair of black denim that I practically live in (seriously, I have to actually remind myself NOT to wear them on a daily basis).
The reason I think these are so essential? They go with everything. And when you find a pair that is made for your body, they can help you look taller and leaner.
If you look to the right, I've put together three outfits to show just how versatile these jeans can be.
The first look shows how to use your denim in a casual way. Pair it with a cute sweater, tall riding boots (brown looks especially cool with black denim), a cozy scarf and you're ready to run errands! Wear this out to lunch, to pick up your kids from school, or to shop on the weekend. (Bonus? These type of cute animal sweaters are super on trend for fall.)
The second look is work appropriate (if you work in a more lenient office). Black denim with a pretty blouse and topped with a blazer in the fall "IT" color, oxblood, looks like you're ready for whatever the day throws at you — from a meeting to a working lunch. Worn with mary jane shoes and classic accessories, you look like you mean business.
The final look is great for date night or a weekend with the girls. The lace top softens up the black denim, red booties make the whole outfit pop and a cool leather jacket adds the right amount of edge. Embellished accessories like the clutch and necklace add extra dimension to this outfit, really making you stand out.
And just to show you that I really do wear my denim with everything, in the second picture to the right are a few of my recent outfits showcasing my black denim. The first was a casual look when my fiancé and I went to register for our wedding, the second I wore to a meeting (notice the leopard heels!), the third I wore to shop and go out to dinner with my fiancé, and the last I wore to a birthday party. (Also, I clearly REALLY like that gold necklace.)
How do you wear your black denim?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Top trends for men as the weather warms
We frequently talk women's fashion around these parts, so today I wanted to give the men a bit of a shout-out. Men's fashions are less likely to change year to year, but there are still "trends" each season that men will find in stores. To the right you'll find some of the top trends for spring/summer 2013.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Looking for stylish way to pack your possessions? It’s in the bag
One of the most personal things a woman buys is a handbag. It holds all of her prized possessions. So when shopping for a new bag, there are a lot of things to consider. Size, color, quality, fabric and length of use. Is she looking for something to use year round, or something that can be changed each season?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Want to add some zing for spring? Go ‘bloom’ yourself!
It's spring, it's spring! It finally feels like spring! Maybe I shouldn't say that too loudly, I don't want to scare it off. Anyway, one of the best parts of spring is seeing all of the pretty flowers popping up around the area.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Don’t write off printed pants
One of the top trends for spring is the printed pant. In any print, in any color, this trend is definitely one that will make you stand out from the crowd. Floral patterns are the most common, but a strong graphic print in any pattern feels right on trend and fresh.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: I’ve learned what to wear from ‘What Not to Wear’
Contrary to popular belief, you CAN actually learn things from watching TV. “What Not to Wear” has been one of my favorite shows for years and Stacy and Clinton have taught me a lot. Now that the show is ending, I'm wondering who exactly I'll learn from next.

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Overalls are coming back — are you all in?
There's a trend that seems to be making the rounds that completely surprises me. In fact, I haven't thought about it since the 1980s — or maybe the early 90s. Overalls seem to be back — so far quietly, but I'm interested to see if the trend gains momentum.

On Monday I started a new job with a local company after almost two years of searching. This was cause for celebration for many reasons:

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Believe it or not, spring is here — so dress for it
It is slowly, slowly starting to warm up around here. But with the spring comes cool mornings and evenings and warm afternoons in-between. When I asked recently what people around me were having a hard time with, the answer was repeated over and over — how are we supposed to dress for these days?

Sarah Stright-Hartley: So, what’s in your bag?
One of the great things about being a woman is that you get to carry around bags filled with all of your favorite things to have whenever you may need them. One of the not-so-great things about being a woman is carrying around a bag filled with all of your favorite things — it gets heavy!
