NEW CASTLE —
Let's get patriotic!
My favorite holiday — the Fourth of July — is right around the corner.
I become an immediate child as soon as fireworks are soaring above my head. I stare in wonder at these giant balls of sparkle and light and "ooh" and "aah" with the best of 'em. And this year, I get to introduce my son to my favorite holiday.
At just 4 months old, I'm really hoping that he'll stare at the fireworks the way I do and develop a lifelong love of them, so every Fourth of July will become "our holiday.”
To the right, I've put together a family ensemble to celebrate the holiday without draping yourself in an American flag.
For Mom — A striped tank, cropped jeans, and blue and white sneakers are very celebratory. I also like the idea of adding red accessories, like a cross body bag (perfect for keeping your hands free so you can hold onto the little ones), and a bold red necklace. You'll feel nice and cool during the day and covered up enough for the cooler night.
For Dad — Is there anything more fun than a graphic 'Merica tee? You're automatically holiday appropriate, and all you need after that is easy jeans, and comfortable sneakers. Perfect for chasing the kids around in!
For baby boy — A navy tank paired with red graphic shorts is a really cool little boy look. Red sandals that won't slip off his feet complete the look.
For baby girl — A fun red dress with layers of polka dots will look celebratory but she'll just love how fun it is! Red sandals with a pretty flower detail will be adorable on her tiny feet.
Does your family dress up for the holiday? I hope you all have a safe and fun Fourth!

Sarah Stright-Hartley: Get geared up for fall with these new trends
I know- you might not be in the frame of mind to think about fall. But with the cooler temperatures this week it has me longing for my favorite season. I've talked more than once about how layering is my favorite way to dress, so naturally fall is perfect for me.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: A diaper bag both mom and dad can get behind
I have an issue with diaper bags. Mainly- I hate them. Most of the ones that are out there for women are covered in flowers in brightly colored patterns. I am not a fan.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: Birkenstocks are baaaack — and that’s a good thing
Birkenstocks. You know those sandals that were popular in the ’90s, essentially synonymous with concert-goers and haven't seen the light of day in recent years?
Sarah Stright-Hartley: Yes, black is back — even in the summer
Temperatures are soaring and we've definitely entered summer. I'll admit, summer is my least favorite time of year. I hate the heat, I especially hate the humidity, and I hate that I can't comfortably layer (my favorite way to dress).
Sarah Stright-Hartley: Happy birthday, ’Merica! This outfit’s for you!
Let's get patriotic! My favorite holiday — the Fourth of July — is right around the corner. I become an immediate child as soon as fireworks are soaring above my head.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: Best of the vest? Jean jacket, of course
When I write the words "jean jacket vest," it brings me back to the ’90s. But aside from that, I love the look of these vests brought into the modern age.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: Need to do some serious shopping? There’s an app for that
Let's get tech-y for a second. We have a ridiculous amount of technology at our fingertips these days and, of course, lots of brands have gotten in on this to make sure that you can shop their stores no matter where you are.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: These suits will make you jump for joy
Oh, the jumpsuit. An item that I have such an obsession with, yet have none in my closet. It only partly has to do with the fact that my husband hates them.
Sarah Stright-Hartley: OK, it’s official — white looks great anytime of year
Now that it's officially OK to wear white (just kidding: that's not a real thing anymore, wear it any time you want), I love seeing all white outfits.
Sarah Stright Hartley: A versatile pencil skirt is never No. 2
If there is one skirt that can always go from day to night, it's definitely the pencil skirt. Wear it to the office to take charge of a business meeting, wear it at night on a date, and wear it in-between for a casual, but put-together, look.
