Sarah Stright-Hartley: If your life’s a beach, pack wisely

NEW CASTLE — This week I'm heading off on a much-needed beach vacation.

During the vacation, we'll also be standing with my sister and brother-in-law as they renew their vows after 10 years of marriage. The last time my husband and I were on vacation was during our honeymoon in Italy — so, needless to say, this is a very different type of trip, needing very different types of clothes.

We are mostly focused on being comfortable but we also need to have clothing appropriate for the sunset ceremony. To the right, I've put together looks for the ceremony and also suggested items to pack for a beach vacation.

For the men, lightweight cargo pants, T-shirts and tanks can become an easy uniform while you're away. Bathing suit bottoms in a great pattern can also double as another pair of shorts for running quick errands or grabbing lunch. Flip-flops and a baseball cap are the only accessories you'll really need to be comfortable and keep yourself safe from the sun.

For a great beach wedding outfit, guys should look for linen pants. A great color (like the yellow ones shown) or a classic white pair are easy to mix and match and will keep you cool in the sun. A linen shirt uses the same idea as the pants — keeps you cool, easy to wear and easy to pair with lots of different bottoms. A great pair of leather flip-flops are perfect for walking the sandy beaches and sunglasses are a must.

For the women, I recommend packing easy dresses, rompers and and tees that you can throw over bathing suits to head for lunch or dinner. The dresses especially can also double as an outfit for a dressier night out just by switching up the shoes and accessories.

A cheery bathing suit, pretty cover up, and cute beach bag will be all the things you need to take with you for a day in the sun. (Don't forget the hat and sun screen for protection!)

For a beach wedding, a floral maxi dress is perfect. It's dressy and elegant but still appropriate for the setting. A cute floppy hat, bold necklace, and strappy sandals are the perfect complements to the maxi dress — and will make it easy to dance the night away.

What do you take on your beach vacations? Am I missing anything?
