Sarah Stright-Hartley: Interior design can bring style inspiration

NEW CASTLE — In the past, I've mentioned how one of my favorite ways to find inspiration when I may be lacking it is through interior design.

Looking at perfectly styled rooms can often give a fresh view on a way to mix textures and colors that you may not have thought of before.

And that's what I've done for this week's blog post.

If you take a look to the right, you'll find a beautiful room in shades of white with hints of blue, pink, and black and white stripes. I've built three different looks around this room for different situations.

Fun — One of the best parts about fall and winter is all of the plaid that comes out of hiding. So I took that idea and built an outfit around a black and white plaid skirt. Then to bring in the blue of the bedroom, I chose a cropped tee over a white chiffon shirt. So that it wouldn't look too young or school-girl like, I grounded the look with chunky black booties and a leather jacket to give the look some edge.

Dressy — Going out on the town? Try something like this — white denim (yes, even in winter, though maybe not if there is snow sludge on the ground) and a dramatic black-and-white striped top. Keep the look sophisticated with strappy heels and a mixed material jacket like this leather and tweed one. I included the blue from the room in the clutch and bangle to give the outfit a slight pop of color.

Professional — Want to work this color combo into your work wardrobe? Go for a classic black suit but then use the color to make the look more vibrant. A hot pink bow blouse is classic and fun at the same time, while the bag is the perfect combination of a classic shape in a surprising color.  The easy accessories keep the look professional enough for the office but still add personality to the look.

"State Fair" opens at the New Castle Playhouse tonight. Will you be checking out the show?

Definitely! I've already got my tickets.
Maybe. I'm not sure.
Nah, it's not for me.
