WPIAL Softball Playoffs: Mohawk rolls to win
Mohawk High’s battery gave the team a positive charge yesterday. The pitcher-catcher duo of Jaki Bender and Lucia Fee powered the Lady Warriors softball squad to a 7-0 victory over Brentwood in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs at North Allegheny High School.

Wilmington High softball pitcher Abby Sotter was in control yesterday. Sotter tossed a complete game, lifting the Lady Greyhounds to a 6-1 District 10, Region 2-AA home win over Mercer.

Chris Mele is taking his 20 years of coaching experience to Kennedy Catholic High School. Mele, a Union High graduate, was announced yesterday as the head coach of the Lady Golden Eagles basketball team.

On a cold and blustery day, Brandon Ritchie brought some heat. The senior tossed a two-hitter yesterday to lead Laurel to a 1-0 win over Washington in a WPIAL Class AA first-round baseball playoff tilt at Chippewa Park.

Wayne Seamans and Devan Schuller were quite the 1-2 punch for the Union High baseball team yesterday. Seamans did his damage at the plate and Schuller was lethal on the mound.

Wilmington High track and field standout Jon Yohman tuned up for the district championship meet in a big way Saturday. Yohman won two events for the Greyhounds at the Mercer County Athletic Conference Invitational. The event was hosted by Hickory High School.

It’s title time for the Wilmington High softball team. The Lady Greyhounds clinched their first District 10, Region 2-AA title since 2010, rolling past visiting Lakeview, 13-0, in five innings.

High School Softball Playoffs: Neshannock earns top seed
The Neshannock High softball team got rewarded yesterday. The Lady Lancers cruised through the competition, capturing the WPIAL Section 4-AA title with a 14-0 record.
