O’Brien was named the Nittany Lions 15th head football coach on Jan. 6, 2012, succeeding the late Joe Paterno.
After two narrow losses to open the season, the O’Brien-led team beat Navy 34-7. Penn State won eight of its final 10 contests and earned a 6-2 mark in the Big Ten Conference, finishing second in the Leaders Division last year.
O’Brien’s eight wins are the most by a first-year PSU coach in the program’s 126 years.
