Fall Sports: A roundup of action from Sept. 3


NEW CASTLE — Lady ’Canes lose

New Castle dropped a 25-13, 25-12, 25-8 Section 1-AA home match to Blackhawk.

No individual stats were provided.

The Lady ’Canes lost the JV match, 25-9, 25-6.

Mohawk drops marathon

Beaver Falls pulled out a marathon win over visiting Mohawk in Section 1-AA action.

The two-plus hour marathon ended with a 29-27, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12 win by the Lady Tigers.

Samantha Carr had 12 digs and 12 kills for Mohawk, while Malea Tress added eight aces and 33 assists.

Maria Fleck tallied three aces, 10 digs, 10 kills and five blocks and McKenzie Stelter supplied 15 digs and nine kills. Jessica Meyer delivered four aces and seven kills.

The Lady Warriors’ junior varsity team beat Beaver Falls, 25-17, 21-25 and 15-11.

Ashley McConnell had nine aces and three assists and Riah Yost added five aces for the victors.

Boys golf

Lancers top foe

Marissa Kirkwood carded a 39 to lift Neshannock to a 204-214 Section 5, Division 2 win over Riverside at Castle Hills on the front nine.

Chris Egbert registered a 40 for the Lancers (5-1, 5-2), while Grant Weaver and Mike Rozzi both chipped in with a 41. Mark Moses added a 43.

Union wins

Cole Gorgacz fired a 41 to lift Union to a 230-237 Section 5, Division 2 win over Mohawk on the back nine at Mohawk Trails.

Austin Burk was next for the Scotties (2-3, 3-3) with a 42 and Jacob Jendrysik recorded a 43. Mike Galmarini notched a 50 and Jeff Shindel scored a 54.

Anthony Bartolone paced the Warriors (0-4, 0-5) with a 41 and Samson Needler was next with a 47. Caleb Pierog scored a 48, Andy Ferrucci supplied a 49 and Bryant Croach tallied a 52.

Boys soccer

’Hounds roll

The Greyhounds pulled away in the second half with three goals in a 4-0 season-opening nonregion road win over Karns City.

Buddy Wynder, Andrew Seiuto, Matt Pataki and Brandon Flicker notched one goal apiece for Wilmington.

Wynder, Seiuto, Matt Balczon and Cody Cooper earned one assist each for the winners.

Derek Nichols made four saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
