Hooker's dunk earns ESPN Top 10 spot

NEW CASTLE — Wow!

That was the collective response among the more than 2,000 who crammed into Williamsport High last night.

Both New Castle High and Lower Merion fans were amazed by Malik Hooker’s vicious throwdown in the first half of last night’s PIAA semifinal matchup.

Even ESPN was impressed. Hooker’s incredible dunk was No. 5 on last night’s Top 10 Plays of the Night.

    When it comes to bowling, 12-year-old Trent Pektas just keeps on rolling. Trent, a Wilmington Middle School sixth grader, claimed the boys 12 and under title of the 2013 Pennsylvania Pepsi Youth Championships over the weekend in Harrisburg.

    Wilmington High’s Jon Yohman turned in a golden effort Saturday. Yohman captured gold medals in the shot put and the discus events at the District 10, Class AA Track and Field Championships at Harbor Creek High’s Paul J. Weitz Stadium.

  • Pens.jpg NHL Playoffs: Ottawa topples Pens in two OT

    Colin Greening wore six stitches on his left cheek, and a wide smile, after Ottawa’s double overtime playoff victory against Pittsburgh. Greening ended the longest game of this year’s postseason with a backhander off a rebound 7:39 into the second OT, and the Senators’ 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins cut their series deficit to 2-1 tonight.

  • WPIAL Baseball Playoffs: Beaver pitcher shuts down Laurel bats

    Once again, Austin was awesome for the Beaver High baseball team. This time, it was Austin Logan who pitched a gem and led the Bobcats past Laurel, 6-0, in a WPIAL Class AA quarterfinal clash at historic Pullman Park.
