Fall Sports: A roundup of action from Sept. 12


NEW CASTLE — Anthony paces ’Hounds

Wilmington’s Nate Anthony fired an 83 in an 18-hole District 10, Region 2-AA mega match at Tanglewood.

The Greyhounds finished fourth in the five-team field with a 375. Hickory won the event with a 331 and West Middlesex was second with a 352.


Union rolls

Union knocked off Cornell in nonsection action, 25-12, 25-13, 25-9.

Morgan Miller delivered seven kills and seven aces for the Lady Scots, while Dacia Neely added four aces.

Tyanna Harris chipped in 10 assists, while Samantha Costello collected three aces.

Mohawk rallies

Mohawk upended Ellwood City Lincoln in Section 1-AA action, 20-25, 25-5, 25-19, 25-18.

Maria Fleck slammed 16 kills, four blocks and three aces for the Lady Warriors (2-2, 3-2), while Malea Tress added 10 assists.

Samantha Carr collected seven digs and Marie Anderson scooped up five digs with four aces. Jessica Meyer notched four aces and three assists. McKenzie Stelter slammed four kills.

Emily Brown recorded eight assists for the Lady Wolverines (0-3, 1-3) and Allie McKelvey was next with five kills and three blocks.

Autumn Kuzmin chipped in with 11 digs.

Mohawk won the JV match as well, 25-23, 25-19.

Ashley McConnell posted three aces, three kills and three assists for the Lady Warriors. Riah Yost tallied three aces.

Josalyn Izzo led Ellwood with seven assists and Sydney Shurtz posted eight digs.

Lady ’Cats rout foe

Shenango cruised to a 25-8, 25-13, 25-13 Section 3-A home win over Western Beaver.

Jade Esposito served up eight aces with nine digs for the Lady Wildcats (4-0, 4-0). Christina Rapone chipped in with 25 assists, while Katie Lacey slammed eight kills.

Shenango won the JV match, 25-4, 25-9.

Caitlyn Schnell spiked four kills and Taylor Wakeling was next with 10 aces. Sarah Herb handed out 12 assists.

Wilmington wins

The Lady Greyhounds opened District 10, Region 3-AA action with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 home victory over Grove City.

Stephanie Parker provided 10 points, 11 digs and four kills for Wilmington (1-0, 3-0) and Cassidy Marett collected seven points, 15 assists and five kills. Katherine Clark contributed seven points and three digs for the winners.

Tessa Sikora added six points, 15 kills and six digs.

The Lady Greyhounds dropped the JV match, 25-14, 21-25, 15-12.

Julia Strobel led Wilmington with nine points, six digs and four assists, while Alana Romeo served up six markers.

Jordan Dye and Amanda Lewis both delivered five points for the Lady Greyhounds. Lewis also scooped up seven digs.

Rachel Vernon slammed three kills.

Laurel cruises

The Lady Spartans posted a 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 Section 3-A home victory over Aliquippa.

Mackenzie Mraz registered 15 points, five aces and six kills for Laurel (2-1, 3-1).

Callie Ritchie and Makayla Dupont both scored eight points.

The Lady Spartans won the JV match, 25-15, 25-4.

Stephanie Telesz served up 15 points and Emily Gibson garnered 10. Paige Covelli was next with eight.
