The Neshannock High girls soccer team dominated New Brighton yesterday.
Caity Binder scored two goals to lead the Lady Lancers to an easy 8-0 victory over the Lady Lions in a WPIAL Section 5-AA contest.
New Brighton didn’t muster any shots on goal and Neshannock built a 4-0 halftime lead.
Alyssa Serignese, Ally Graham, Robyn Dougherty, Courtney Cuba, Alicia Nuzzo and Jenna Loader had one goal each for the Lady Lancers (1-0 section, 3-0 overall).
Gabby Buttgereit had the game’s lone assist.
Neshannock recorded a 3-2 victory over Wilmington on Tuesday in nonsection action.

Lady Lancers prevail
Neshannock captured a 3-2 Section 2-AA victory over Center to remain undefeated. Lindsey Peterson and Monica Magda posted wins in singles action for the Lady Lancers (3-0, 4-0). The duo of Alice Desbarax/Stephanie Bucci won in doubles play.

Wilmington rolled to an easy 5-0 win over Franklin in a District 10, South Region match.
Katie Flynn (No. 1), Kait Martin (No. 2) and Abbey Kennedy (No. 3) earned singles wins for the Lady Greyhounds (2-1, 2-1). The doubles tandems of Leah Hunter/Katie Patterson (No. 1) and Haley Deli/Shelby Guarnieri (No. 2) also were victorious.

PIAA Track Championships: Wilmington's Yohman wins discus gold
Wilmington High track and field standout Jon Yohman turned in a golden effort Saturday. Yohman claimed a gold medal in the discus with a toss of 177-10 in Class AA at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.

The Wilmington High softball team exacted some revenge yesterday. The Lady Greyhounds scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning, claiming a 4-3 District 10, Class AA semifinal-round win over Titusville at Penn State-Behrend.

Former Wilmington High football star Derrick Burns was in stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital last night after falling ill. A local church with which he is affiliated asked for prayers yesterday for the University of Pittsburgh sophomore running back after he suffered a possible mild stroke.
