Fall Sports: A roundup of action from Aug. 23

NEW CASTLE — Josh Bonnici helped the Wilmington High boys golf team score a pair of victories yesterday.

Bonnici fired a three-over 39 to lift the Greyhounds to a team score of 172. Heartland Christian posted a 189 and American Spirit was next with a 215. The match, which was against a pair of Ohio schools, was held on the front nine at Copeland Hills.

Nate Anthony followed Bonnici’s effort with a 41 for Wilmington (5-2) and Collin Duffy scored a 45. Matt Zimmer chipped in with a 47.

Laurel cruises

Nick Peluso carded a 35 to lift Laurel to a 194-249 WPIAL Section 5, Division 2 victory over Mohawk on the front nine at Green Meadows.

Evan Long and Colton Brown both scored a 37 for the Spartans (3-0). Tucker Skerbetz contributed a 41 and Alex Brooks added a 44.

Samson Needler notched a 45 and Caleb Pierog posted a 49 for the Warriors. Andy Ferrucci (50), Bryant Croach (51) and Anthony Bartolone (54) also scored for Mohawk.

Girls tennis

Lady ’Hounds win

Wilmington cruised to a 5-0 District 10, Region 1-AA victory over Sharon on the Lady Tigers’ courts.

Alanna Elliott (No. 1), Alexis Donati (No. 2) and Nikki McCown (No. 3) all captured singles wins for Wilmington (3-0 region, 3-0 overall).

The doubles tandems of Lydea Kraynak/Holly Vernon (No. 1) and Taylor Cox/Lydea Zoeller (No. 2) also tallied victories for Wilmington.

1. Alanna Elliott (W) def. Jackie Bradshaw 6-2, 6-0.

2. Alexis Donati (W) def. Lauren Wood 6-1, 6-1.

1. Lydea Kraynak/Holly Vernon (W) def. Natalie Liscio/Erin Hosick 6-1, 6-0.

2. Taylor Cox/Lydea Zoeller (W) def. Monica Campbell/Andrea Steiner 6-0, 6-0.

EXHIBITIONS

1. Kaitlyn Meyer/Chelsea Rogel (W) won 6-2.

2. Emily Mayes/Marissa Litzenberg (W) won 6-2.

3. Marissa Litzenberg/Hadley Fry (W) won 6-1.
