Spring Sports: A roundup of action from April 3

NEW CASTLE — The New Castle High boys track and field team got the season started in a positive fashion yesterday.

Thaemon Mitchell and Mike Mazzanti won three events each to lead the Red Hurricane to an 88-61 decision over Montour.

Mitchell won the long jump, triple jump and the high jump for New Castle, while Mazzanti captured the 800, 1600 and the 3200 relay.



Wolverines win

Ellwood City Lincoln cruised to a 111-30 decision over Neshannock.

Keaton Docchio (100, 110 hurdles, 400 relay) and Jared Meyers (400 relay, shot put, long jump) won three events each to pace the Wolverines.

Austin Moose (800), Robbie Kroner (3200), Seth Dueitt (javelin) and Rocco Fazio (high jump) won one event each for the Lancers.



Laurel cruises

Clint Glenn and Alex Brooks registered three wins apiece to pace Laurel to a 128-22 win over Union.

Glenn secured wins in the 800, 1600 relay and the 3200 relay, while Brooks captured the high jump, long jump and the triple jump.

Cole Keister (400, 300 hurdles) earned two of the Scotties’ three wins.



Wilmington dominates

Cody Cooper and Stefan Pontius each secured a trio of victories to guide the Greyhounds to a 93-37 win over Farrell.

Cooper finished in first place in the 200, 1600 relay and 3200 relay, while Pontius was tops in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and pole vault.



Girls track

New Castle falls


Caitlin Adamo won two events for the Lady ’Canes in a 70-66 loss to Montour.

Adamo won the 800 and the 1600.



Lady Spartans roll

Hailey Tammaro, Jessica Conrad, Hailey Voorhees, Abby Finley and Mackenzie Mraz won two events apiece to lift Laurel to a 120-30 win over Union.

Tammaro won the 400 relay, 1600 relay, Conrad claimed the 100, 300 hurdles, and Voorhees captured the 1600, 3200 relay. Finley followed with verdicts in the 1600 relay and high jump, while Mraz won the shot put and triple jump.

Christina Noble (javelin, long jump) won two events to lead the Lady Scots.



Neshannock holds on

Lizzie Manickas won three events to lead the Lady Lancers to a 76-64 win over Ellwood City.

Manickas won the 1600, 3200 and 3200 relay.

Brooke Muntean (100, 200, 400 relay) and Andi Hozick (400 relay, discus, javelin) won three events apiece for the Lady Wolverines.



Lady ’Hounds victorious

Hannah Drake posted wins in four events to lead Wilmington to a 112-25 triumph over Farrell.

Drake picked up victories in the 1600 relay, the 3200 relay, the long jump and triple jump.

The WPIAL Section 5-AA game was heading to the bottom of the third inning when the rain came. Each team had one hit.
