Rochester 0

The Lady Wildcats scored 19 runs in the first inning in a Section 4-A home win over Rochester.

The game was stopped after 2 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule.

Shenango (2-0, 2-1) banged out 12 hits in the win.

Alexa Owrey had three hits and four RBIs to lead the Lady Wildcats, while Taylor Biddle notched three hits and a pair of RBIs. Alyssa White tallied two hits and two RBIs, and Kim Burdett knocked in three runs.

Burdett posted a home run for Shenango. The homer, her first of the season, was a three-run shot.

“The offense really opened up today,” Lady Wildcats coach Amy Delaney said. “We were really hitting some hard shots.

“We were hitting legit base hits. We had several doubles and triples. I was pleased with how the girls were attacking the pitching. The approach at the plate was very good today.”

Macy Rubin (2-1) earned the win. She started and pitched the first two innings. Rubin didn’t allow a hit, walking none and striking out four.

Jacqui Baker tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Lady Wildcats. Baker gave up two with hits no walks and three strikeouts.
