HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS: Neshannock stays alive, Sharpsville falls

The Neshannock High boys basketball team still is alive for the WPIAL’s fifth seed into the PIAA Class A tournament.

The Lancers, who lost to Sewickley Academy in the quarterfinals last week, remained in the hunt thanks to the Panther’s 62-49 semifinal win over Cornell at North Hills last night.

If Sewickley Academy (21-2) wins WPIAL gold on Friday, Neshannock will earn the fifth seed.

Talented Lincoln Park (18-6), which defeated Serra Catholic in the semifinals, stands in the way of the Panthers capturing their second straight WPIAL Class A title.

Lincoln Park defeated the Lancers (16-8) twice this season by a combined 21 points. Sewickley Academy beat Neshannock by 34.

•The Sharpsville boys basketball team lost to Fairview last night in the District 10, Class AA semifinals.

Fairview defeated the Blue Devils, 63-27.

Sharpsville (15-9) is coached by Shenango graduate and former Neshannock boys coach Jim Smiley.
