Rapone to coach secondary for Arizona Cardinals

NEW CASTLE — It’s official. Finally.

Former New Castle High football star and head coach Nick Rapone is the new defensive secondary coach for the Arizona Cardinals.

“I had to wait until all the i’s were dotted and the t’s were crossed, but it’s official now,” Rapone said Monday night from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Rapone, who comes to the Cardinals from the University of Delaware, where he served as defensive coordinator, joins his longtime friend Bruce Arians, who was named head coach of the Cardinals last week.

Arians and Rapone met when both played for Virginia Tech University in 1974 and Rapone went on to serve on Arians’ staff at Temple from 1983-88.

Sports editor Kayleen Cubbal spoke to Rapone on Monday night and will provide complete details in Wednesday’s edition of The News.
