Lightning Squirt B hockey team captures title

NEW CASTLE — A local Lawrence County hockey team captured the PAHL Squirt B2 championship.

The Lightning Squirt B team claimed a 2-1 victory over the Mon Valley Thunder. The championship required playing four games over two days. Lawrence County finished the regular season 8-3-3.

The Pennsylvania Amateur Hockey League is a youth hockey organization representing teams from Lawrence County, western Ohio, West Virginia and central Pennsylvania.

The Lightning also notched victories in the Three Rivers Cup tournament as the B2 champions with a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Aviators and the Cleveland Rock and Roll B championship with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Hudson County (N.Y.) Barnburners.  

During the regular season, Patrick Cionni, Drake Tomak, and Davey Cochenour recorded hat tricks. Jonathan Kulp, Hunter Deal and Tomak earned a playmaker (three assists in one game). Kulp and Andrew Bovo grabbed shutouts in net.

The Lightning Squirt B hockey team is — Cochenour, Cionni, Amanda Varga, Gianna Memo, Mitchell McClymonds, Matthew Ioanilli, Tomak, Colton Chamberlain, Devin Vanasco, Nicholas Cartwright, Deal, Kulp, Bovo and Jake Caravella.
