WPIAL Soccer Playoffs: Neshannock, Mohawk girls ready for action

NEW CASTLE — It won’t take long for the Neshannock and Mohawk girls soccer teams to get started in the WPIAL playoffs.

The Section 1-A champion Lady Lancers (11-2-3) will open the postseason against Section 3 fourth-place finisher Carlynton (8-7-2) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Valley High School.

The winner will face the South Allegheny-New Brighton winner in the WPIAL quarterfinals Wednesday. Section 2-A titlist South Allegheny is 13-3-1 and New Brighton finished at 9-6-1.

Meanwhile, the Lady Warriors (9-9) will play Section 4-A fourth-place finisher Riverview (7-10) in a pigtail game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fox Chapel High School for the right to face Section 4 champion Greensburg Central Catholic (14-1) in the first round at 6 p.m. Monday at Norwin High School.

The winner of that matchup will face the Charleroi-Springdale winner in the quarterfinals.

The other side of the bracket has Section 3 champion Bishop Canevin (15-2-1) playing Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (8-8), Sewickley Academy (9-6-3) meeting up with Vincentian (10-5-1), Shady Side Academy (14-3) matching wits with Serra Catholic (10-7) and Avonworth (14-4) battling Bentworth (9-7).

Neshannock is 4-2-2 this year against Class A playoff participants, while Mohawk posted a 3-5 record.
