Spring Sports: A roundup of track, tennis action for April 5


NEW CASTLE — Girls track

Ellwood rolls

Brooke Muntean and Angela McCowin scored three wins each for the Lady Wolverines in an 81-69 decision over Neshannock.

Muntean won the 100, 200 and 400 relay, and McCowin notched wins in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the 400 relay.

Lizzie Manickas (800, 3200, 3200 relay) captured three wins to lead the Lady Lancers.

Laurel cruises

Four Lady Spartans grabbed three events each en route to a 114-28 decision at Union.

Ashley Glasser had the top mark in the 100, 200 and 400. Brooke Dicks added wins in the 800, 3200 relay and 1600 relay. Jessica Conrad was a member of all three relay victories for Laurel in the 400, 1600 and 3200. Mackenzie Mraz couldn’t be bested in the triple jump, shot put and 300 hurdles.

Christina Noble was a double winner for the Lady Scots in the 100 hurdles and javelin.   

Shenango falls

McKenzie Stelter powered the Lady Warriors to a 81-69 triumph at Shenango.

Stelter dashed and leaped past the competition in the 400 relay, pole vault and long jump.

Nicole Watkins bagged three victories for the Lady Wildcats in the 200, 400 and 1600 relay. Allie Cardella also notched three wins for Shenango in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 1600 relay.

Lansdowne lifts Lady ’Canes

Andrea Lansdowne propelled New Castle to a 86-63 decision over Montour.

Lansdowne couldn’t be beat in the 1600, 3200 and 3200 relay events.

Kelsey Scott and Caitlin Adamo were double winners for the Lady ’Canes.

Scott won the 100 and the 400 relay and Adamo took part in the 1600 and 3200 relay victories.   

Boys tennis

Riverside swept the doubles matches to rally for a Section 2-AA road win over Ellwood City.

Matthew Barnes (No. 1) and Beau Ewing (No. 3) claimed the Wolverines’ victories in singles action.
