College Football: Locals earn PAC honors

NEW CASTLE — Four former local high school standouts were honored by the Presidents’ Athletic Conference yesterday.

Westminster senior defensive lineman Sean Christofferson was named to the All-PAC first-team defense, while Geneva senior all-purpose back Rocco Colavecchia earned first-team laurels on offense.

Geneva running back Dylan Jones and Thiel kicker Jon Fennick received honorable mention honors.

Christofferson, a Wilmington High graduate, was the first Titans defender to earn first-team status since Ryan Chmura in 2005 by finishing second in the conference with 8.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss — both team-highs. Christofferson was a second-team selection last fall after earning honorable mentions during his first two collegiate campaigns.

Colavecchia accounted for 23 touchdowns as an all-purpose back for Geneva. The former Shenango High standout rushed for 294 yards and 19 scores and caught 51 passes for 535 yards and two more scores, while completing 2 of 4 passes for 46 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also averaged 31.7 yards on three punts.

Jones, a Laurel High product, rushed for 492 yards and four scores on 112 attempts and hauled in 31 passes for 201 yards and another touchdown.

Fennick, a Neshannock graduate, led the Tomcats in scoring with 49 points, while converting 28 of 35 extra points and 7 of 9 field goals.
