NEW CASTLE —  West Middlesex and Lakeview battled for the District 10, Region 2 boys basketball’ title.

And, they waged war for the D-10, Class AA championship.

The Big Reds won both, but it’s only natural players from both teams dominated the all-region squads. West Middlesex’s Matthew Dogan was named the region’s player of the year. Teammates Jeremy Jancso and Trey Staunch joined him on the first team as did Lakeview’s Dalton Boggs and Casey Greggs.

Wilmington’s Jordan Smith earned second-team honors. He led the Greyhounds (5-7 region), 8-14 overall) in scoring at 11.7 points per game. He added 17 3-pointers.

Lakeview reached the PIAA quarterfinals, but dropped a 56-44 decision to Beaver Falls. West Middlesex advanced to the PIAA semifinals, but fell to Beaver Falls, 59-47, which went on to claim PIAA gold.
