NEW CASTLE —  Beaver’s boys basketball team won 15 of its first 16 games.

However, the Bobcats, coached by former Westminster player Andy Podbielski, had to hold on at the end to grab a share of the WPIAL Section 2-AAA championship with Central Valley.

Beaver’s Aaron Barlow and Austin Logan earned all-section first-team status. Ambridge’s Malik Walker, West Allegheny’s Andrew Koester and Blackhawk’s Chase Migliore joined them on the first team.

No Ellwood City Lincoln players earned first-team honors. Freshman Nick Aloi led the Wolverines (0-12 section, 3-19 overall) in scoring at 17.3 points per game, which ranked fourth in Lawrence County. He was second in free-throw percentage (88.3). He added 27 3-pointers.

Beaver advanced to the WPIAL semifinals, but fell to Chartiers Valley, 68-43. General McLane beat the Bobcats, 69-54, in the PIAA second round. Central Valley lost a WPIAL first round game to Kittanning, 67-62.
