NEW CASTLE —
Michael Harris is arguably one of the biggest success stories to come out of Frew Mill School.
Tomorrow, the player who helped lead the Longhorns to the 1988 WPIAL Class A basketball championship, will make a return trip to New Castle to give back and share his story with young people in New Castle, where his love for the game began.
Harris, now a sports agent, will appear here during a book release and motivational speaking tour.
From 1-4 p.m., Harris will conduct a book signing and speak at the Ben Franklin Early Learning Center at 815 Cunningham Ave.
At 5 p.m., Harris will appear at a benefit banquet at First Assembly of God Church at 2021 Pulaski Rd. The event, presented by the Gussie M. Walker Community Outreach Organization, will benefit the Walker Neighborhood House.
Harris, who is the founder of Best Sports Consultants, one of the top sports marketing firms in the country based out of Philadelphia, has had a client field that has included Kobe Bryant, Terrell Owens and Ray Lewis.
Harris’ first book, “Young Marques Becomes a Quiet Storm” is based on a true story about New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston. His second book, “Theo the Hero” is a story about anti-bullying based on the life of former NBA star center Theo Ratliff.
A movie about Harris’ historic championship season at Frew Mill School, a part of New Castle’s Youth Development Center, currently is in development. Hollywood producer/writer Monique Sorgen has completed the movie script.

New Castle High graduate and Slippery Rock University basketball standout Devin Taylor is going pro. Taylor signed a professional contract yesterday to play for the Etzella Ettelbruck Basketball Club in Luxembourg for the 2013-2014 season.

WPIAL Baseball Playoffs: ‘Missed opportunities’ end season for Union
The book is closed on the 2013 Union High baseball team. Those interested in reading the last chapter should turn to the page titled, “Missed Opportunities.” There were plenty of them in the Scotties 5-1 loss to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals at Pullman Park in Butler.

Mohawk High’s battery gave the team a positive charge yesterday. The pitcher-catcher duo of Jaki Bender and Lucia Fee powered the Lady Warriors softball squad to a 7-0 victory over Brentwood in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs at North Allegheny High School.
