NAMES IN THE GAMES: Catching up with local athletes competing in college

Hiram’s Shawn DeJohn had a breakout game on Wednesday.

DeJohn recorded 16 points and five rebounds in a 97-93 double-overtime win over Grove City College.

A sophomore from Shenango High, DeJohn was 5 of 10 from the floor in 21 minutes.

In a 74-71 win over Oberlin (Ohio) College last Saturday, DeJohn posted three points in nine minutes.

DeJohn is averaging 4.8 points a game and 1.2 rebounds a tilt.

The Terriers are 2-4.

Elsewhere around men’s college basketball:

SHOOTING BLANKS

Waynesburg College’s Jeff Nero was held scoreless in 19 minutes in an 89-82 win over Grove City College last Saturday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference matchup. Nero did have three rebounds.

Nero, a senior forward from Union, is averaging 14 points a game and 4.3 rebounds a contest.

The Yellow Jackets are 4-2.

LIGHTING IT UP

California’s Theron Colao scored eight points in 16 minutes of action in the Vulcans’ 88-65 win over Wheeling Jesuit last Saturday.
