FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Neshannock pair going to WPIAL tennis doubles tournament

Neshannock High’s Monica Magda and Alice Desbarax are headed to the WPIAL girls tennis doubles tournament.
The pair of Lady Lancers finished third yesterday in the Section 2-AA doubles tournament at Bradys Run. The girls advance to Tuesday’s doubles tournament at Shady Side Academy.
The pair entered the tournament as the fifth seed and beat Riverside’s Casie Arkwight/Taylor Gibbs in the first round, 10-2. They advanced to the quarterfinals and defeated Center’s Allie Miller/Maura Mendicino, 10-2.
Magda/Desbarax lost to top-seeded Hannah Williams/Rachel Schartner of Beaver in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-3.
The duo went on to beat Blackhawk’s Darcie Ilg/Jessie Ilg in the consolation round, 6-3, 7-5.
Marie Bullano/Lindsey Peterson also represented the Lady Lancers. The pair entered the tournament as the third seed and beat New Brighton’s Lauren Mittner/Laura Weathers in the round of 16, 10-2.
The duo lost in the quarterfinals to Beaver’s Caroline Reina/Katie Schmid, 10-8.
Volleyball
Shenango shocks Union
The Lady Wildcats knocked off the Lady Scots in a Section 3-A match, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
Macy Thompson led Shenango (6-4 section, 7-5 overall) with 10 kills and Emily Niles added nine kills. Chelsey Isler had 15 digs and Angelene Rapone added 26 assists.
Jessica Duncan notched 11 assists and three kills for the Lady Scots (5-4, 6-4), while Cameron Lewis tallied eight kills and three blocks.
Union won the JV contest, 20-25, 25-19, 15-4.
Stephanie Benincase led the Lady Scots with four digs and Jen Hamilton added three aces.
