FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Mohawk runners wrap up perfect regular season

The Mohawk High boys cross country team put the finishing touches up a perfect regular season yesterday.
The Warriors earned their 11th victory and captured a WPIAL Section 1-AA championship by defeating Union (17-46), Beaver (47-16) and Western Beaver (15-50).
Mohawk’s Jonny Kline finished first at 19:11, while teammate Thomas Macri was second at 19:35.
Monas Cunningham of Mohawk was third in 19:41, while Union’s Kevin Zurrica got fourth at 19:43. Mohawk’s Brian Gallagher finished fifth at 20:13.
Cody Dean (eighth, 20:35), Alex Scott (ninth, 20:44) and Ben Jones (10th, 20:46) rounded out the Warriors’ runners.
Laurel sweeps pair
Laurel posted wins over Beaver Falls (25-32) and Neshannock (17-44), while the Tigers defeated the Lancers, 18-39.
Laurel’s Evan Miller won the race in 18:40, while teammate Christopher Papp was second in 18:51. Zach Bintrim was fifth in 20:02 and Pat Wilver took eighth in 20:42.
Jonathan Wherry finished ninth in 20:46 for the Lancers, while Chris Price was 10th in 21:27. Alex Covelli finished 14th in 22:07 and Robert Gallentine was 16th in 22:26.
Robert Schrantz won the junior high race for Neshannock in 11:31, tying the Lancers’ junior high record. Justin Kennedy placed sixth for Laurel in 16:21.
Shenango splits
Shenango beat Ellwood City (15-50) and South Side Beaver topped the Wildcats (16-45). The Rams topped the Wolverines (15-50).
Brandon Kusnierz finished 12th for Shenango in 20:36, while Dylan Latimer was 17th in 21:31. Tyler Gricks took 18th in 21:32. Anthony Sainato placed 21st for the Wolverines in 21:51.
