    The Shenango Area School Board has named Al Dorsch as assistant high school principal. Dorsch, who has been a science teacher in the district for about 16 years, replaces Dan Mayer, who resigned to take a position in the Fort Cherry School District.

    After the most important proposal had been offered and accepted, Kelly McNees and fiancé Matt Krawchyk made another. With their destination wedding scheduled for July 26 on a beach at North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the couple had something to ask the father of the bride.

  • Shenango board OKs abuse policy

    The Shenango Area School Board has adopted a child abuse policy. The policy implements the provisions of a state law passed in 2012 that requires school districts to provide training on child abuse recognition and reporting to their employees who have direct contact with children.

  • Shenango class to hold gathering

    Shenango High School’s class of 1955 is planning a casual get-together for next month. Members of the class will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 at Eat ’n Park restaurant in downtown New Castle.

    Cafeteria prices in the Shenango schools are remaining the same for next year. The school board approved the following prices for the 2013-14 school year:

    The Shenango Area School Board adopted a $15.8 million budget Monday night that requires no tax increase. All eight members present voted in favor of the $15,819,792 spending plan for the 2013-14 school year. Joseph Gaus was absent.

    Academic excellence and outstanding AP test scores earned Shenango the disinction of being among the Best High Schools for 2013. Shenango was the only school in Lawrence County to receive a silver award for the assessment, which is conducted by U.S. News & World Report and the American Institutes for Research, said Joe McCormick, high school principal at Shenango.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
