High School Golf: Carone, Cioffi competing in PIAA western regional qualifier
Only the best golfers reach the boys PIAA Individual Championship. Lawrence County has two with that chance. Shenango’s Darren Carone and Neshannock’s Matt Cioffi will face off against 40 others in the western regional of the PIAA championship today at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

High School Golf: Neshannock, Shenango advance to WPIAL championship
The news was good for a pair of Lawrence County golf teams yesterday. Neshannock and Shenango high schools both advanced to the WPIAL Class AA Championship.

High School Golf: Shenango boys capture section title
Matt DeAngelo paced the Shenango High boys golf team to the outright section championship yesterday. DeAngelo fired a 37 to lead the Wildcats to a 199-223 Section 5, Division 2 win over Union at Rolling Hills Golf Course. It’s the Wildcats’ first section title since 2006.

All the scores Wednesday night at Taggart Stadium were of the musical variety rather than touchdowns. The home of New Castle High’s football team was the site of the 33rd annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival. Laurel High School, under the direction of Nathan Daubenspeck, was the host band.

Shenango sets its open house
Shenango High School will have its annual open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Parents and guardians of students in grades seven to 12 are invited.

The Shenango Area School District conducted its annual Pie Festival on Thursday at Glenn “Pop” Johnston Stadium. Hundreds turned out to watch performances by the marching band, danceline, flagline and cheerleaders. In addition, members of the district’s athletic teams were introduced to the crowd.
