    It won’t be official until Monday, but Mike Commesso is Shenango High’s new football coach. The announcement was made to a group of parents and students after an executive session during the Shenango Area School Board’s work session Monday night, according to principal Mike Schreck.

    Shenango High School will hire Hopewell assistant Mike Commesso as its head football coach Monday night. The decision to hire the Mohawk High graduate was made after four of an original field of 22 candidates went through a third interview at last night's work session of the Shenango Area School Board.

    Lawrence County’s district attorney is planning a school safety summit of sorts after the first of the year. Joshua Lamancusa said he will meet with district officials, security guards and police to determine what security measures are in place at local schools and what can be done to enhance them.

  • Shenango board sets tax ceiling

    The Shenango school board has set a ceiling for a tax increase it could impose next year. The board adopted a resolution Tuesday indicating it will not raise the property tax for the 2013-14 school year above the 2.4 percent index set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

  • football.jpg Tradition Ends: Shenango to play home games on Friday nights

    One of the most time-honored traditions in Lawrence County football is about to come to an end. The Shenango Area School Board is expected to announce at tonight’s meeting that Shenango High’s home varsity football games now will be played on Friday nights, instead of Saturdays.

    The Shenango Area School Board has granted a family medical leave to Judy Gaus, a teacher’s aide. The leave began Oct. 29, with an end date to be determined.

  • Mayo.tiff High School Football: Mayo resigns as Shenango coach

    Ryan Mayo has resigned as football coach at Shenango High School. “It was just time,” Mayo said last night of his letter of resignation. “I’ve got three little ones at home. The job takes a lot of time off your hands.”

    These wolves were too big and bad for the Shenango High girls volleyball team. The Lady Wildcats dropped their quarterfinal-round matchup in the WPIAL Class A playoffs, 25-17, 25-19, 25-13 to West Shamokin last night at North Allegheny High School.

Geez! I didn’t realize they were THAT old! That’s, like, my grandpa’s age.
