    The Shenango and Ellwood City school districts have been awarded Safe Schools Initiative Targeted grants from the state. Each district will receive $25,000, according to state Sen. Elder Vogel.

  • Owrey appointed to Shenango board

    Dean Owrey is a new member of the Shenango Area School Board. The board appointed Owrey by an 8-0 vote Monday. He fills a vacancy created by the death of Ronald Martin in December.

    The Shenango Area School Board is expected to appoint Dean Owrey on Monday to fill a vacancy on the board. Owrey, chief financial officer of the University of PittsburghMC’s information services division, was selected from among 16 people who expressed interest in the position.

    The Shenango Area School Board will conduct a second round of interviews Monday for the vacant board position. Sixteen township residents applied for the position, which became vacant in December with the death of Ronald Martin.

  • Shenango school board sets tax hike limit

    The Shenango school board has set a limit for a tax increase it could impose this year. At its meeting this week, the board adopted a resolution indicating it will not raise the property tax for the 2014-15 school year above the 3 percent index set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

    The Shenango Area School Board will accept applications until Jan. 17 to fill a vacancy on the board. The vacancy was created with the Dec. 12 death of Ronald Martin.

    Shenango Junior/Senior High School had one of the highest School Performance Profile scores in Pennsylvania. The school had an overall score of 91, the highest for a high school in Lawrence County. In Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, It was second only to Mars High School. Mars had a score of 93. The intermediate unit covers Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

  • Shenango OKs roofing contract

    The Shenango Area School Board has awarded a contract to replace the roofs at its two buildings. Triangle Roofing of Pittsburgh submitted a bid of $1,860,270 for the roof replacement at the junior/senior high school and elementary school.
