Shenango board OKs abuse policy

NEW CASTLE — The Shenango Area School Board has adopted a child abuse policy.

The policy implements the provisions of a state law passed in 2012 that requires school districts to provide training on child abuse recognition and reporting to their employees who have direct contact with children.

Employees are required to receive at least three hours of training every five years.

Also this week, the board approved the hiring of Rhonda Smith as a two-hour cafeteria employee at a pay rate of $9 per hour.

The status for Jeana Turco was changed from a two-hour-per-day cafeteria employee to a 2 1/2-hour employee with her pay remaining at $9.50 per hour.
