Shenango officials accept pay freeze

NEW CASTLE — Administrators in the Shenango school district have accepted a wage freeze for the 2012-13 year.

Dr. Michael Schreck, acting superintendent, said the freeze affects high school principal Joe McCormick, assistant principal Dan Mayer, director of special education Christine Moon, elementary principal Adam Vincent and technology director Rob Heath.

Schreck added the district has not yet adopted its 2012-13 budget. He said adjustments are being made to the proposed spending plan. He also noted it has not yet been determined if a tax increase will be necessary.

There will be a special meeting at 7 p.m. May 29 to present the preliminary budget. The document will be on display at the school for 30 days and a vote on adoption will be taken at the end of June.

At its meeting the board also:

•Contracted with Burk Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation to provide athletic trainer services for the 2012-13 school year for $8,000.

•Contracted with Herb Guenther as an adviser for extra-curricular games for the 2012-13 school year and with Kevin Rorabaugh as a summer school teacher.

•Extended the contract of school board solicitor Richard Harper for the 2012-13 school year.

•Authorized one ninth-grade student and one 10th-grade student to attend Laurel High School for the 2012-13 school year to participate in the agricultural classes.

•Added the following people to the substitute teacher list: Tyler Matteo, summer technology; Krista Mendicino, elementary; Jennifer Edder, social studies and math; and Molly Sharbaugh, English.

•Approved an unpaid leave for Antoinette Fox from May 3 to 11.

•Accepted resignations of cross country coach Chris Thompson, van driver Paul Klabon, speech/language teacher Cathy Bukowski, science teacher Jarrett Chapman, custodian Bruce Aiken and elementary teacher Jacquelyn Roberts.

•Appointed board member Sam B. Biasucci as treasurer for the 2012-13 school year.
