Owrey appointed to Shenango board

NEW CASTLE — Dean Owrey is a new member of the Shenango Area School Board.

The board appointed Owrey by an 8-0 vote Monday. He fills a vacancy created by the death of Ronald Martin in December.

Owrey, chief financial officer of UPMC’s information services division, was selected from among 16 people who expressed interest in the position.

He will serve through December 2015. District voters will elect a candidate to a two-year term in November 2015 to complete Martin’s term.

The board also accepted the resignation of Lori Mort as a special education teacher effective June 9, 2014, and granted a family medical leave to custodian Antoinette Fox beginning Jan. 28, 2014.

The board set mileage reimbursement at the IRS approved rate of 56 cents per mile as of Jan. 1. The old rate was 56.5 cents.
