Shenango registering new students

NEW CASTLE — The Shenango Area School District is accepting registration of high school students who have recently moved into the district.

Preferably, the district wants all new students to be registered by Aug. 16 so that the school district can adequately prepare schedules and transportation arrangements.

Parents and guardians should contact Sandy Palmer at (724) 658-5537, extension 3002.

The following information needs to be submitted when registering:

Birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency, immunization records according to Pennsylvania state law requirements (including proof of chicken pox or varicella vaccine), and their grade transcript or last report card.

The Pennsylvania School Code also requires a signed safe schools affidavit stating a child has never been suspended or expelled for an alcohol, weapons, drugs, or fighting violation. Affidavits are available in the high school office.

New students already registered and all 7th graders are invited to attend an orientation between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 21. Seventh-grade students will receive their schedules that day. Counselors, the school nurse and administrators will be available for assistance.

Students in grades 8 through 12 may pick up their schedules between 10 a.m. and Noon and 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 20.

Yearbook pickup day is scheduled for Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. until noon in the high school lobby.
