WPIAL Boys Playoffs: Shenango looks to ‘bring back pride’
The playoff drought is about to end for the Shenango High boys basketball team. Wildcats coach Bob McQuiston is hoping this year’s team can rekindle the postseason tradition for the program after last appearing in 2009.

Shenango OKs school calendar
The Shenango school board has approved the calendar for the 2012-13 school year. The first day of school for students will be Aug. 27 and the last day will be June 7, 2013.

Shenango OKs budget, may raise taxes
The Shenango school board approved a $16.2 million preliminary budget. The proposed spending plan is $712,268 higher than the current budget. The district is applying to the state for an exception to increase the property tax above the 2.4 percent index.

Shenango prepares for kindergarten
Shenango Elementary has set the dates for its kindergarten registration. Students who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1 may register for kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year.

Former Shenango superintendent honored
A former Shenango Area School District superintendent has been named the state’s best at that position. Dr. Patrick O’Toole was selected by the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators as the 2012 Superintendent of the Year.

Shenango creates online newsletter
Shenango Area School District’s newsletter is available online. In an effort to reduce the cost of printing and postage, the district has made its newsletter available as a digital publication.

Shenango revises teacher’s leave
The Shenango Area School Board has revised a leave for an English teacher. The family medical leave for Rachel Guy has been revised and will be from Dec. 12 through March 9.
