  • money.jpg Playing sports for Neshannock? You’ll have to pay

    The Neshannock school district has no tax hike in its proposed budget, but is extending its pay-to-play program. The proposed $17 million 2013-14 budget will be posted on the district’s website. The budget holds the millage at the current rate of 14.3758.

  • Butz scholarship winners announced

    Although he died in 2003, New Castle humanitarian Jack Butz is still helping young people. At the Jack Butz Humanitarian Award banquet this week, nine students, representing each of the county high schools, received scholarship assistance through a fund set up to honor “Mr. Downtown New Castle, Jack Butz.”

    The father of a student allegedly assaulted on field trip asked Neshannock school officials to ensure kids’ safety. “I’m not here to discuss what happened,” he said last night, “only to say that I’m concerned for all students.

  • Laurel not anticipating tax hike

    The Laurel School Board has introduced a $17.4 million budget that requires no tax increase. The $17,488,091 spending plan for the 2013-14 school year is $947,945 higher than the current year’s budget.

  • Laurel names principal

    The Laurel School Board named Daniel Svirbly as junior/senior high school principal. His appointment begins with the 2013-14 school year. He will receive a salary of $90,000.

    The Neshannock school board does not anticipate a tax increase for next year. A tentative 2013-14 budget — featuring $17,005,051 in expenses and $16,585,744 in revenues — was introduced this week.

    Mohawk senior Katelyn Byers retired this year as the undisputed champion of the Lawrence County Historical Society Trivia competition. Over the last four years, Katelyn won four Individual and three team championships.

Geez! I didn’t realize they were THAT old! That’s, like, my grandpa’s age.
