NEW CASTLE — This summer, the Red Cross will launch a babysitting class, with the option for online learning.

The course gives students babysitting information to ensure children stay safe in the protection of their caretakers. Interested New Castle residents can enroll by visiting RedCross.org/Babysitting.

This four-hour class is designed to prepare students ages 11 and older for the basics of babysitting. The online training is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to care for infants and children up to age 10, as well as how to manage a babysitting business.

Particular aspects of the class include managing the business of babysitting, playing with kids of all ages, caring for kids and determining what to do in an emergency.

Each student who completes the class with an 80 percent or better grade is officially certified and receives a printable diploma.

The class will be offered in New Castle this month at the Red Cross office, 222 N. Mercer St.

Other classes are planned for Saturday. They are:

•Adult and pediatric first aid/CPR/AED — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $110.

•Adult CPR/AED — 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $70.

Residents, businesses, organizations and community groups can register for private instruction from the Red Cross. To register, call (800) RED-CROSS or visit RedCross.org.
