Mohawk Area School Board

At its regular meeting April 14, the Mohawk Area School Board:

•Renewed an agreement with Jameson Health System for athletic trainer services for the 2009-10 school year at a cost of $25,000. That is the same amount the district is paying this year.

•Gave permission to teacher Jason Bonnar to accompany the junior-senior high school band to Cedar Point on May 25. The trip is being paid for with money from a band fundraiser.

•Gave Superintendent Dr. Timothy McNamee permission to attend an American Association of School Administrators state presidents conference April 29 through May 1 in Phoenix, Ariz., at no cost to the district.

  • Lincoln to stage Shakespeare send-up

    Lincoln High School will present the play “I Hate Shakespeare” at 7 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday in the auditorium. The play takes a comedic look at some of William Shakespeare’s greatest plays, such as “Hamlet,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Macbeth.”

  • Education task force to meet in Grove City

    The Midwestern Local Task Force Right to Education meeting will be Feb. 9. The group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City.

    The Neshannock Township School District has reached a settlement with the parent of a special-needs child. At its meeting this month, the board agreed to pay attorney’s fees and put money aside toward the boy’s education.

  • money.jpg New Castle district to save with bond refinancing

    The New Castle school district will save about a half-million dollars by refinancing a bond issue from 2006. At its meeting last week, the board unanimously approved a resolution to proceed with the refinancing at the recommendation of its bond counsel and financial adviser.

  • No injuries reported in school bus accident

    No students were injured in an accident Friday afternoon involving a Mohawk school bus. According to superintendent Kathy Kwolek, the accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Martin Kelly Spears Road in Mahoning Township.

    Pennsylvania high school students are invited to enter a contest aimed at discouraging distracted driving. Students may submit a 30-second radio public service announcement and the winning announcement will be professionally produced and sent to the student’s local media market.
