NEW CASTLE — The Wilmington School Board approved a $20 million budget with no tax increase this week.

The new $20,077,110, spending plan for the 2013-14 school year is $1,660,567 greater than the current year’s budget. Increases are attributed to higher retirement costs and capital projects anticipated for the coming school year.

Taxes, which were raised last year, remain at 13.3 mills for Lawrence County and 62.6 mills for Wilmington Township, Mercer County.

Also at its meeting, the board:

•Accepted the $28,195 bid of Arcadia Glass House of Painesville, Ohio, for an educational greenhouse.

•Authorized 10 teachers to participate in the summer school program.

•Hired seven part-time cleaners for the summer.

The rates are effective July 1.

•Contracted with Mortimer’s Excavation Inc. for $1,885 to provide materials and equipment to address drainage problems at the high school parking lot and provide alley access to houses on High Street.

•Approved the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center budget for the 2013-14 school year.

•Authorized Dr. C. Joyce Nicksick, district superintendent, to serve as chief school administrator for the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center for the 2013-14 school year.
