It’s a Thanksgiving tradition, ranking right up there with turkey, cranberries and football.
Each November, the New Castle News asks a group of local kindergarten students to tell us how they’d go about whipping up Thanksgiving dinner. This year, youngsters from Laurel Elementary and Portersville Christian schools answered the call.
Meanwhile, Shenango kindergartners got into the real deal Tuesday when the dressed up in costumes recalling the first Thanksgiving for a turkey dinner. Photos from that event are included with the Laurel youngsters’ recipes.
Haylie Savo — We get the turkey at Walmart. Thanksgiving morning we bake the turkey with oil, milk and stuffing. Cook it for two minutes until the button pops. Then plop it on a plate and it’s ready to eat.
Rileigh Krebs — First my daddy shoots the turkey. We take it to Nanna’s and Nanna gets it ready to cook. She puts salt, vinegar and pepper on it. Then she puts it in the oven to bake. Next we (all our family) eat Thanksgiving dinner together.
Hailey Collins — Put turkey in sink and wash first. Then put gloves on and get big black pan. Turn on stove. It gets hot.
Maddisen McAnany — Butter, stuffing, mix together. Stuff turkey with stuffing. Place turkey in oven. Bake at 325 degrees until the red dot pops out, then turkey is done. Enjoy.
Summer Haney — First, Daddy gets a turkey from the woods. Then Mommy cleans it. Next we bake it for 300 hours. Finally we take it out of the oven and eat it.
Mason Walters — You have to get up early and go hunt for one. Then when you get one, you come back home and take all the feathers off. Then you put it in a pan and put stuffing, salt and pepper on it. Then you cook it. Then when it’s done you eat it.
Angel Milbert — First, you gotta put it on a pan. Then you put it in the oven and cook it for two minutes while the oven is very, very hot. Then you cut it up and eat it.
Nicolina Antonio — You make a circle and then you make feathers and legs and arms. Then color it and write Nicolina and it will make eggs.
Ethanael Turner — Go to the grocery store and buy a turkey. Take turkey home, open it and put it in a pot. Add the ingredients and cook it. Then take the turkey out and put it on the table and eat it. Next, put the plate it is on in the dishwasher.
William Disman — First you brown it. Then you put it in the oven for one hour and 55 minutes at 300. You put butter on it and pepper. That’s it.
Vanessa Rogan — You hunt the turkey. You shoot it. Take it home. You cut it open and then put it in the oven and cook it, and then you eat it.
Gabriella Archidiacono — Put seasonings on it, stuff it with meat and deep fry it.
