At its January meeting, the Union Area School Board:
•Agreed to hire Kevin Brennaman at $12 per hour plus benefits, as assistant to the buildings and grounds supervisor.
•Named school security director Ron Booker as the game/event manager for all athletic activities for grades five to 12. Booker, who will receive $3,500 per school year, will function as an assistant to the athletic director and monitor student behavior during on-site school athletic events.
•Considered options for installing a permanent, temporary or partial fence around the high school baseball field. Costs range from $12,000 to a few hundred dollars. Discussions will continue next month.
•Accepted the audit report presented by Philip Weiner & Co.
•Approved the retirement of high school principal Robert Hooven, who has led the school for 11 years.
•Approved the PIAA head coach performance appraisal forms, which will be used to evaluate all head coaches of major sports in the district.
